Changing to Become your Future

I love the story of Michelangelo when he was asked about how he sculped the statue of David. He stated, “I chipped away the parts that weren’t necessary.” If only we could do that for ourselves! Now, there is a way… MindSync MindStretch Mastermind Groups! To become who you want to be means chipping away things that aren’t necessary!

There is so much evidence about how living out our values and purpose brings meaning and happiness to our lives. Yet, most do not pursue it and stay stuck in loops of everyday life!

What I have found in my practice is that until we change those things that are limiting us, we eventually return to where we have been.

It has long been thought that the underlying characteristics of who we are – the ‘Big Five’ - Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, and Emotional Stability cannot change. But we can change our behavior and how each of the five are expressed. Our personality is what we typically do. So as we build and sustain new habits, we will, in effect, change our personality. We are what we repeatedly do, so the first thing we need to change fundamentally is the way we think.

Dr. Joe Dispensa in his book – Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, puts it this way (my interpretation). Most people try to change to a new personal reality with the same personality and it does not work! We have to be willing to feel homeless in our mind and body and realize and address what has been holding us back from stepping into our future.

We must start thinking about what we’ve been thinking about! Become aware of our unconscious habit, and behaviors and even what we say. We must look at the emotions that keep us anchored to our past and decide if those emotions belong in our future. And then change them.

We must teach our body how the future could become emotionally before it can exist in the moment. We can live in the reality of the future now which will start changing your genes to look like the future. It requires unlearning by pruning synaptic connections and sprouting new connections. When we no longer signal our old genes, the new genes change our chemistry to become who we were meant to be.
